Recently, the trend of wearing something more vintage and distressed has made a comeback. Now, you’ll notice more and more celebrities, influencers, and models sporting ripped apparel every time they go out.

You’ll even see people paying money just to purchase pre-distressed clothing, leather jackets especially. Of course, the traditional and most natural way to achieve that vintage look is to carry around that leather jacket every day for several years.

Fortunately, there’s are ways to distress your leather if you’re not in the mood to wait that long. Here are some of them.

Use Rubbing Alcohol

Lightly mist your leather jacket using rubbing alcohol from a spray bottle. If you don’t have any spray bottles, you can use a toothbrush or a piece of cloth instead.

Make sure you don’t end up drenching your leather jacket. You just need to dampen it with rubbing alcohol. This will then end up drying out the leather, achieving a more weathered look.

Beat It Up

While your leather jacket is still moist from the rubbing alcohol, make sure to properly crumple, knead, and crease it. Doing this can easily distress the leather and give it lines and folds on the surface for that worn-out look.

Get The Sandpaper Out

To increase the worn-out look of your leather jacket, break out the sandpaper and rub it on your jacket. Focus on the parts that would naturally experience the most wear and tear, like the corners and the bottom.

Get It As Dusty As Possible

Take your leather jacket outdoors and get it as dusty as you can. This doesn’t mean you have to muddy your jacket. You still need to be careful that you don’t accidentally ruin it. Take it one step at a time and step back every so often to evaluate your progress before proceeding.

There’s no reason for you to go wild and rush into dirtying your leather jacket. You can grab some dirt and gently sprinkle it all over your jacket. You can also roll it in dirt or a sandbox if that’s what you prefer. Then, brush off any excess dust once you’ve achieved the look you desired.

Use A Brush With Strong Bristles

To further distress your leather jacket, take out a wire brush or any brush with heavy bristles. Apply the brush in the exact same way you applied the sandpaper. Remember to focus on the parts that would go through natural distress the most.

Final Thoughts

More and more people prefer leather jackets that looked like they’ve aged gracefully. Of course, it’s always possible to purchase old leather jackets instead, but what are the chances of finding the perfect vintage jacket that’s just the right size and style for you?

Regardless of the style of leather jacket that you have, the tricks mentioned above can help guide you in the right direction. You no longer have to wait for decades just to own a vintage-looking leather jacket.
